Hawaii Adventure 2013
Some choose Hawaii but others Hawaii chooses. The latter is my case :)
The moment I stepped out of the plane changed my entire life. I was hooked and in absolute love with this place from the very first second.
For some it is just a nice vacation place but for me it is much more - it is Home. The only place which corresponds 100% with my spirit and inner nature. I wonder what it was like before. Now it is very american of course. Important for me is that old hawaiian traditions still matter, protecting nature matters and wildlife restoration programs are ongoing. I think people´s awereness is still the one which needs to broaden all over the world. Then no restoration programms would be necessary because nobody would cause such an unbelievable damage to their own surrounding, home, planet. But we need to evolve and I am sure we will get there eventually (if we don´t blow up the entire planet in the meantime).
My true life passion are animals and especially turtles. HONU is the hawaiian name for green sea turtles. They are unbelievable and absolutely gorgeous! Thank God they are protected in HI. Unfortunately, this is not the case in so many countries around the world even though they are endangered (Why endangered? Answer is nothing else but PEOPLE which makes me extremely sad).
Swimming with them in the ocean is definitely the best experience of my life. We were able to volunteer with the Hawaii wildlife fund (https://www.wildhawaii.org/) and help protect these wonderful creatures by raising people´s awareness. Unbelievable how ignorant people can be. Nobody realizes that they are wild animals probably because they are (unfortunately) so harmless. Nobody would jump on a wild lion, right?
Well....I TOTALLY recommend volunteering. You meet new people, help out and gain a priceless feeling - you made maybe just a small change but it still might have a big impact afterall. If everyone would do something useful which will help other people, animals, nature, society -this world would be a better place for us all.
When you want to visit HI and are afraid of the costs I can assure you that you definitely don´t need to book the most expensive hotel. If you are willing to explore the island(s), have an open mind and adventurous personality you will be able to survive on a low budget. Our accomodation in one guy´s back yard was great and real cheap (we rented an old trailer placed in his garden = funky :) Of course if you need a hotel with all inclusive on the most touristy beach of the island etc then you have to pay for all that and in HI it will be hell A LOT. But if you are flexible you can even set up a tent on a camp ground. So who really wants will find a way. Who doesn´t will find excuses.
If you have a deep inner desire to visit the Hawaiian islands just like I did (and still have) I would definitely suggest you follow your dream. I dreamt and it came true. I am dreaming again and some day my dream will hopefully again manifest itself :) Of course dreaming is not enough - you also need to be active and work hard to accomplish your goals - just don´t give up!
